The great debate
A classic Bob Nuckolls treatise, this time apparently it's against the microprocessors as part of the avionics package (such as Vertical Power). I wonder how this thread will look 5 years from now? (AeroElectric List)

New Titan kit
Thread with discussion and links to a couple guys building their own engines from kits. As a hands-on systems guy, thread watcher Joshua Wyatt says, "I'm actually looking forward to the FWF & electrical parts of the project), the idea intrigues me...I'll probably still buy from one of the known shops for safety, as I've never worked on an aircraft engine before (or buy used to save pennies), but I enjoy seeing the process and learning along." The RVers of Oshkosh
You meet the most fascinating people on the Sunday before AirVenture officially opens, just by strolling around the homebuilt camping area. Here's a small sample of the stories behind the airplanes and the people who build and/or fly them in this multimedia slideshow. (More)
RVer is number 30,000
RVer Bob Noll was honored for owning the 30,000th U.S. homebuilt aircraft. Twenty had applied for the title, which should go to the entire Noll family since they all pitched in. Noll and his daughter were among those interviewed on the RVers of Oshkosh multimedia presentation. (More from ANN)

Building a winning RV
Oshkosh is the perfect place to find out how to build a show-champion caliber RV. Armed with the official judging guidelines, I go over the standards and found the perfect guinea pig RV, and I answered the long-standing question: Will judges 'ding' you if you cover up rivets? Yes. (Watch the multimedia slideshow)
Nose and tail art of Oshkosh
We've all seen the fabulous paint jobs on RV airplanes, but what's really intriguing is some of the nose and tail art on airplanes that people build. Far more than the paint job itself, the art shows the personality of the builder. I'll let you describe the personalities that are shown in the slides. (More)

and rotation speed indicator. You supply the brains
Let
me say first of all, that I don't understand a single thing on
the pages I'm about to refer you to. But I know a lot of you will.
It's about Arduino,
an open-source electronics... something. Paul Eastham used it to
mess around with Dynon data in order to build
an angle-of-attack indicator with rotation speed readout.

The New Kitbuilt Rules: Endangering the freedom of the many for the excesses of the few.
The scariest sentence in Marc Cook's piece: "I asked if the RV-10, which is a more advanced kit, would pass and Dick said he didn't know; it hadn't been run through the same checklist. " (AvWeb)

Oshkosh Forum
Wiring for smart people
I'm not sure what number is higher: the number of hours I've spent working on my RV-7A project (more than 1,700) or the number of seminars I've been to and number of times I've slogged through AeroElectric Connection, hoping that something will click and I'll be able to go ahead and wire up my airplane. I was a little hesitant to take in the Wiring for Smart People (Monday 10 a.m.) forum with Greg Richter, Blue Mountain Avionics, but then I figured, 'what the heck, maybe my whole problem so far has been that I'm much too smart. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.(More)
Taj Mahal paint booth
Most folks know that Jason Hutchison is a busy guy. He built his RV-6 (slow build) in his garage
while moving to Pecan Plantation and changing jobs. Adding the Mazda rotary engine took another
large chunk of his time. Most builders would have tightened that last screw and said "time
to send this puppy off to the paint shop." Not Jason. In the time-honored manner of homebuilding, he also took on THAT challenge. Todd Baker's hangar soon became the hiding place for what has become known as the "Taj MaPaintBooth."
This photo essay follows him through that process. PVC and plastic make up the outer shell. (From EAA Chapter 983 Newsletter)
